Traverse City - Joyce L. Bowers, 93, of Traverse City went home to be with her Lord and Savoir Jesus Christ on Thursday, May 1, 2014. Her Faith in Jesus Christ was all important to her. She passed away peacefully at her home.
Joyce was born on November 24, 1920 in Waltham, MN to the late Henry and Elma Maria Catrina (Schieck) Jeffries. She was married to Edgard L. Bowers on March 15, 1941 in Lanesboro, MN.
Joyce grew up in Lanesboro, MN and graduated from Lanesboro High School. During WWII, she moved to Milwaukee where she and Edgar made their home for 40 years. In 1980, she and Edgar retired to Traverse City. Retirement didn't last long as she worked at Pranges, Younkers and Hudson's from 1980 - 1998. She also enjoyed being a hostess at the McDonald's on Front Street. In her spare time, Joyce enjoyed reading, walking, crocheting and sewing. She had a wonderful personality and enjoyed the company of others. Above all else, Joyce loved being surrounded by her family. She adored her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Edgar in 1996, a son, Gary Bowers in 2013, three brothers and a sister; Virgil Jeffries, Nathan Jeffries, Gaylord Jeffries and a sister Arlene Mosher.
Joyce is survived by her daughters Sandra (Ronald) Van Wingerden of Traverse City, Anita Johnson of Austin, TX, a daughter-in-law, Sharon Bowers of Seattle, WA, sister-in-law's Mona Jeffries of Wylie, TX, and Anndella Jeffries of Vienna,VA. nine grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.
Joyce's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Hospice of Michigan and her loving team; Betty, Ashley, and Jessica and caregivers; Ronda and A.J.
A funeral service honoring Joyce will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Pastor Don Sunman will officiate. Visiting will take place on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
Joyce will be laid to rest next to her husband Edgar at the Forest Home Cemetery in Milwaukee.
