Joyce Elaine McManus, age 97, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2026. She was born in Muskegon, Michigan.
Joyce married and later made her home on Old Mission Peninsula, where she and her family tended a centennial cherry farm and built a life rooted in hard work, family, and community. She was a devoted mother who raised seven children and created a warm, welcoming home filled with love and resilience.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, Harold “Jolly” McManus, and her daughter, Debra Stewart.
Joyce is lovingly remembered by her six children: Terry Smith (Jim) of Traverse City, Michigan; Jean McManus Brown (Rodney) of Traverse City, Michigan; Tom McManus (Lucy) of Green Valley, Arizona; Mischa DiFilippo of South Charleston, West Virginia; Rick McManus (Eiko) of Kirkland, Washington; and Joe McManus of Ada, Michigan. She also leaves behind 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, all of whom were a source of great pride and joy in her life.
Joyce worked as a cook at Old Mission Peninsula School, where she was known for her kindness and dedication. Outside of work, she found joy in crafting and playing the organ, sharing her creativity and music with those around her. As a dedicated member of her community, Joyce volunteered with the Father Fred Foundation, serving her community faithfully for over 20 years.
Joyce will be remembered for her strong spirit, generous heart, and deep love for her family and community.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Father Fred Foundation or the Cherryland Humane Society.
A Visitation and Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date this summer to be announced.
