Obituary

LAKE ANN — Judith Haiss, 95, of Lake Ann, passed away July 29, 2010, at home surrounded by her loving family. Judith was born on July 10, 1915, in Chisholm, Minn., to the late Otto and Lydia (Sandbacka) Hanell. On Aug. 8, 1938, Judith entered into marriage with Donald Frederick Haiss in Traverse City. In her spare time, Judith enjoyed sewing, baking and gardening. She was a girl scout leader and a member of the Flower Club. Judith was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and siblings, Vike, Ev, Ruth, Carl and Rex. She is survived by her daughter, Anna Lee (Alan) Gray, of Lake Ann; granddaughter, Rebecca (Steve) MacGirr, of Lake Ann; grandson, Gregory (Deanna) Gray, of Knoxville, Tenn.; granddaughter, Victoria (Jerry) McDonald, of Lake City; grandson, Scott (Shelly) Gray, of Lake Ann; sister, Sara Lassa, of Traverse City; brother, John (Avis) Hanell, of Traverse City; brother, Otto "Babe" (Dorothy) Hanell, of Traverse City; sister-in-law, Ida Hanell; sister-in-law, Mary Hanell; brother-in-law, Francis "Andy" Farney; and great-grandchildren, Crystal, Emily, Michael, Alicia, Julie, Brandon, Brittany, Ryan, Alex, Morgan, Athelia, Graham, JT and Rex. Visitation for friends and family will be held on Sunday, Aug. 1, 2010, at Lake Ann United Methodist Church C.E.C., from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service celebrating Judith's life will take place on Monday, Aug. 2, 2010, at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior, also at Lake Ann United Methodist Church C.E.C. Pastor Justin Grimm will officiate. Memorial contributions in Judith's honor may be directed to Advent Lutheran Church or to Hospice of Michigan.
