Obituary

Judith "Judy" Irene Suchoski, 81, of Traverse City, Michigan passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at her home. Judy was born on December 4, 1939 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to the late Louis and Dorothy Patricia (Hertig) Eaton. She married the love of her life, Joseph Suchoski, on December 31, 1960 in Sparta, Michigan.

Judy and Joe moved to Traverse City in 1973. She was employed as the school nurse with Traverse Bay Area Intermediate School District, retiring in 1999 after more than 25 years helping underprivileged children. Judy devised and implemented the now-standard process of evaluating special needs children. She wrote and produced a nationally recognized film, "Stay Safe", that helped special needs children learn about and identify abusers and predators. She was honored to receive the Teacher of the Year Award. She served on the Board of Directors of Grand Traverse Community Living Center (now Brickways) which provides housing and support for adults with special needs. Over the course of her career Judith impacted and touched countless lives in our community. She loved to sing and had an infectious laugh. She enjoyed watching birds and caring for animals. Above all her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

Judy is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Joe; three sons, and a daughter: Mark (Julie Kolodisa) Suchoski, Matthew (Carla) Suchoski, JP Suchoski, and Hope (Steve) Tomlinson. Also surviving are her beloved grandchildren: Chelsea Suchoski, Tyler Suchoski, Kirstyn Suchoski, Kyle Kolodisa, Kristen Kasper, and Yong Xian Goldie Huang; and her great-grandchildren: Judith Delaney, Paul and Mackenzie Kasper, and Hadley and Skyla Kolodisa.

She was preceded in death by her brother Frederick Eaton.

In accordance with Judy's wishes she will be cremated.
