Julia Saldaña (Jiménez) passed away on Friday, August 22, 2025, in Traverse City, MI. Julia was born on April 12, 1931, in San Antonio, Texas to Nicolasa and José. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ralph, son Jhonny, and four sisters. She is survived by her sons Michael (Cindy), Ralph (Katie), and daughter Anna (Richard); 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A large and loving family, and she was the center of it. Julia was proud of her Hispanic heritage and passed that love onto her familia. She enjoyed her childhood – even though it was during the great depression, she said she didn't notice it. She was a self-proclaimed tomboy. Her idyllic childhood was halted when her father died when she was only 13. To make ends meet, the family (a mom with her five girls) hit the road and became migrant workers. A tough life, Julia had many memories from her travels around the country picking various crops. Her travels eventually took her to Michigan, where she picked sugar beets in Bay City. There she met her husband, Ralph Saldaña. They moved to Jackson, MI and raised their family.
Julia worked at ITT Hancock for 31 years. She was known as a hard worker and was always ready to help with any family project. Julia will be remembered for her Faith, love of family, flowers, and everything outdoors.
A Celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, August 30th, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth St. Traverse City, MI. Family will welcome visitors an hour prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
