June Elizabeth Benedict, 96 of Traverse City passed away Saturday December 31, 2022 at Country Pleasures Assisted Living.
June was born on June 2, 1926 in Frankfort, MI to the late Willard and Anna (Backes) Straubel. She married the late Clark H. Benedict on October 25, 1947 in MI. Together they lovingly raised four wonderful sons.
June moved to Traverse City after her marriage to Clark in 1947. She was a teacher in a one room school house and eventually worked for Milliken's Department Store for over 25 wonderful years in the Gifts Department. She was a devoted member of St. Francis Catholic Church. She volunteered many years at the Dennos Museum and in her spare time enjoyed playing cards. She was a past president and member of the Daisey Chain at the Elks Lodge for many years. She and Clark enjoyed wintering in Gulf Shores Alabama in early retirement.
Junes gentle soul and warm smile will be missed by all those whom knew and loved her.
Surviving June are her sons, Mark (Bernice) Benedict, Kenton (Colleen) Benedict, Timothy (Richard Hall) Benedict, and John (Nikki) Benedict, grandchildren Jay, Anne, Josh, Bridgette, Tracey, Kyle, Alyssa, Kylie, Natalie and Halle, several great grandchildren, her sister Mary (Ron) Sweet and many other loving family members and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 2pm on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at St. Francis Catholic Church with a visitation beginning at 1pm. Burial will take place next to her husband Clark at Oakwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Francis Catholic Church.
