Obituary

June Marie (Blixt) Johnson, of Traverse City and Fort Myers, Florida, passed away October 30th 2013. June was born May 31, 1927 in Thorpe Wisconsin and moved to Traverse City as a young child. She met her future husband, Guy Johnson, at a Bethlehem Lutheran Church box social. They were married there on December 14,1947 following Guy's U.S. Army duty in World War II. The Old Mission Peninsula has been their home since then, wintering six months in Fort Myers, Florida for the last 30 years.

Predeceasing June are parents Carl and Irma (Klimeck) Blixt; sisters Mildred Blixt, Luella Blixt, Joan Clouse Barnes; and son, Stevan Johnson. In addition to her husband, Guy, June is survived by her daughter Phyllis (Brent) Cooley, daughter-in-law Debra Johnson; grandchildren Janae Cooley, Courtney (Ben) Morin, Lyndsay (Nick) Batsakis, Andrew Johnson: Great grandchildren Ella Batsakis, Luke Morin, and Elle Morin; sister-in-law Mary Johnson; brothers-in-law Fred Clous and Frank Barnes, and multiple nephews and nieces.

June's joy in always putting others' needs in front of hers is her lasting legacy. For a period of time, she was a foster mom and also worked as a dietary assistant at the Osteopathic Hospital. To her family's delight, her "hobby" of testing new recipes has entertained for years! Grandchildren and great-grandchildren will always hold close their Grandma's, "I love you forever and a day!"

June's family extends heartfelt gratitude to the many people who have supported her especially during the last four years: Munson's Rehabilitation Center, Grand Traverse Commission on Aging, Munson Hospice, and friends north and south.

A family gathering will be held at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home 305 6th st. Traverse City from 3 until 4 p.m. Tuesday November 5th, followed by a visitation for friends from 4 until 6 p.m. A Celebration of June's life will be held at 2 PM Wednesday November 6th at the funeral home with graveside services following at Oakwood Cemetery.
