Traverse City - Karen Elizabeth Harty, 48 of Traverse City passed away unexpectedly on October 13, 2018.
Karen was born May 15, 1970 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Thomas and Linda (Baker) Evans.
Karen's passion was in teaching early childhood education where she spent many years with the children she adored, in Iowa, Texas, and lastly at the Suttons Bay Preschool, here in Northern Michigan.
As a newly hired member of Macy's Department Store, Karen had been looking forward to working at the fine jewelry counter.
Karen graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Nursing and The University of Northern Iowa with a Masters Degree in Teaching.
Karen was a vivacious, fun-loving person who had a contagious laugh and could make anyone smile. Karen also used to dance ballet and tap and became a Coach to those younger and just starting off. She also enjoyed singing, often performing in show choirs.
Karen grew up in Iowa, but her Minister father, mother, and sisters spent most of their summers enjoying the beauty of the Frankfort area with other members of the Congregational Summer Assembly.
From her time growing up in Frankfort, Karen had a tremendous love for the out-of-doors, and held a special place in her heart for owls and raccoons.
Her favorite place was the Pointe Betsie Lighthouse, and it was there that she married her best friend and husband of three years, David. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and her two beloved cats Mishe and Lilac.
Karen was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Evans, her Mother, Linda (Baker) Evans
Karen is survived by her husband David, sisters Jenny Evans and Martha (Troy) Errthum, her step-son Brandon Ellis, and numerous extended family members.
The memorial service celebrating Karen's life will be held on Thursday October 18, 2018 at 11:00 am at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home with visitation beginning one hour prior.
