TRAVERSE CITY — Katherine L. Beer, 82, of Traverse City, died Friday, July 9, 2010, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. Katherine was born on Thursday, June 7, 1928, to the late Arnold and Martha (Maroon) Schaefer in Detroit. Prior to her retirement, Katherine had been a waitress in several Traverse City restaurants.She was a gifted seamstress, sewing many clothes for her daughters, as well as making paper dolls for them. She enjoyed classic movies, loved cats and German Shepherds and playing bingo. Prior to her illness, Katherine was active at the Senior Center, enjoying the friendships formed there, as well as their many trips to various areas. Katherine is survived by her daughters, Dorian Carmien-Michels of Grawn and Susanne David of Traverse City; her grandsons, Brian Carmien, Richard Carmien Jr., Alexander and William David; her four great-granddaughters, Alexis, Ashlyn, Alayna and Alyson; and a brother, Howard C. Schaefer. At her request, no formal services will be held.
