TRAVERSE CITY - Katherine "Cathy" R. Wright, 89, of Traverse City, passed away on Sept. 9, 2015. Cathy was born on Oct. 3, 1925 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, to Edward and Mary (Mullen) Rogan.
She graduated from Dimock High School in 1944 and from Temple Nursing School as an registered nurse in 1948.
In 1950 she met and married Dr. Johnson K. Wright Jr. In 1952 the couple moved to Ann Arbor, where he pursued a residency in dermatology. Finally, in 1956 they moved to Traverse City, Jack's hometown, and Cathy's ever since.
Cathy was always active in the community, volunteering in activities connected to rearing her children - PTA, the citywide instrument sale - and the Munson Women's Auxiliary and Bazaar. Her children grown, Cathy later returned to work as a nurse for many years in Jack's office.
Cathy enjoyed the full range of local leisure activities, boating, skiing and above all, golf. Cathy and Jack were lifetime members of the Traverse City Golf and Country Club, later proud to have a home overlooking one of its fairways - and a second home in Sarasota, Florida, adjacent to a fairway as well. They had countless close friends in both locales. After her husband's death in 2004 Cathy made a happy home for herself and added many more friends to her circle at the Glen Eagle retirement home.
Cathy was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Eleanor, Mary, Elizabeth and Nancy; and her husband, Jack.
She is survived by her sister, Agnes; her three children, Kent Wright, Lynn Sharpe and Jim Wright; and three grandchildren, Nicole, Rachel and Lauren Sharpe.
A luncheon gathering will be held for family and friends at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015 at the Traverse City Golf and Country Club. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 14, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions in Cathy's name may be directed to Heartland Hospice.
