TRAVERSE CITY — Katherine "Blanche" Sleder, 92, of Traverse City, died Friday, Dec. 23, 2011, at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City.Blanche was born on Friday, Dec. 5, 1919, to the late Rolland and Clara (Wellein) Johnson in Grand Traverse County. She married Thomas Sleder in 1944 in Traverse City. Blanche was an elementary teacher, having taught at Oak Park School for 25 years. She had previously taught in Kingsley. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, the XYZ group at church and the Retired Teachers Association. Blanche loved to travel, enjoyed raising flowers and working in her gardens and had a passion for healthy cooking.Survivors include her daughters, Elizabeth "Betsy" Mulcahy, of Traverse City, Katherine "Kathy" Sleder, of Traverse City, and Frances "Franny" (Tony) Kohler, of Big Rapids; her grandchildren, Cassandra (Kevin) Muir, Haven Johnston, Abraham (Kate) Kohler and Amanda (Mark) Kuhn; her great-grandchildren, Mickaela, Sophia, Zoey, Autumn Sky, Evan and Leo.Blanche was preceded in death by her parents; husband; her sister, Susie Tharp; her son-in-law, Tom Mulcahy; and great-grandson, Aric Kohler.Visitation for Blanche will take place from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, at The Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Traverse City, with Pastor Paul Busekist officiating.
