Traverse City – Kathleen Marie Belovich, 79, of Traverse City passed away December 23, 2021 with her family by her side.
Kathleen was born on August 15, 1942 in Traverse City to the late William and Eva (Schmuckal) Barnes Sr. She grew up on the family cherry farm on Barnes Road which was named after her father. They grew cherries and apples and she had a wonderful childhood.
She attended the Catholic Schools and graduated from St. Francis High School in 1961.
On October 23, 1965, Kathleen married her best friend, Otto Belovich at the Old St. Francis Church in Traverse City. The two had met at the A&W while he was stationed in Empire with the U.S. Air Force. They had many wonderful times throughout their 56 years of marriage.
Kathleen was an outstanding wife, mom and grandma. She was always a bright light to so many and was a fun, happy person. She had a witty sense of humor and was loved by all who knew her. She worked for many years with her husband at their dealership, Traverse Motors, in human resources. She also was a dedicated volunteer for the Father Fred Foundation for 27 years. She and Otto loved to travel and had many amazing vacations in the states and abroad. She also liked to play cards and enjoyed a nice glass of wine. She kept in close contact with many of her school class mates and she helped organize many of their reunions. She will be greatly missed.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents and brother William Barnes Jr.
Kathleen is survived by her husband Otto; their children Amy Belovich and Mark (Amy) Belovich; grandchildren Jared and Eva Belovich and Sydney and McKenna Flaherty; sister-in-law Lucille Barnes; sisters in law Monica Ray and Leopoldine Belovich and brother-in-law Anthony (Patty) Belovich and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 27, 2021 from 4 to 6 pm. The rosary will be prayed at 4 pm at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
Kathleen was a lifelong member of St. Francis. The Mass of Christian Burial celebrating her life will be held at the church on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at 11 am with visitation beginning one hour prior. A luncheon will follow also at her church.
Graveside services will take place at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Father Fred Foundation or to the Grand Traverse Area Catholic Schools Scholarship Program.
