Kenneth Stormer of Traverse City, Michigan entered into eternal life on October 27, 2022, at the age of 92. He was born on March 4, 1930, on Lake Street in Empire, Michigan, the third son of John and Shirley "Ethel" Stormer. John was the son of Peter and Esther (Voice) Stormer, and Ethel, the daughter of Roy and Etta (Pahe) Sattler.
Ken lived with his parents in Empire, Interlochen, Monroe Center, Lake Ann, and Warren, Michigan. He graduated from Lincoln High School in June of 1947. In the last two years of high school, he worked alternate weeks at the Dodge factory in Hamtramck.
In 1947, he began working for the City of Traverse City at the old City Hall doing utility billing. In 1951, at the onset of the Korean War, he joined the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Muliphen (AKA-61) in the Atlantic. While onboard he visited Cuba, Bermuda, Algeria, Spain, Italy, Greece, and Turkey.
After his honorable discharge in January 1955, he returned to Traverse City. He worked collecting coins from parking meters for a short time before going to work at Parsons Corp. in their data processing department. While there, he met Wanda Bright, and on June 30, 1956, they were married in Traverse City. It was a double wedding along with her sister Bertha and Marvin Wassenaar.
Their first home was on Rose Street in Traverse City and while they lived there their daughters were born. When Parson Corp. closed, Ken went to work for the Lear Inc. on Eastern Avenue in Grand Rapids in their data processing unit. While living there, their son was born. Ken also worked for Lynch Inc. for short time before working in Carson City, Michigan at the Carson City Hospital operating their computer system. Ken retired from there, and he and Wanda moved to Lake Ann where they lived for 19 years before moving to Bay Ridge.
He is survived by his wife Wanda after 66 years of marriage; their children, Tami Jo Hall, Becky Ann (Tony) Alpers, and Brian Scott (Theresa) Stormer; nine grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; brother David (Pat) Stormer.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Ethel (Sattler) Stormer; and brothers Floyd (Yvonne), Dale (Ruth), and Donald (Pauline) Stormer.
A graveside committal will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens, 3575 Veterans Drive, Traverse City, MI 49684. Under the auspices of the United States Navy and the Veteran's Honor Guard, military honors will be presented.
