Obituary

Dr. Kenneth Arnold Warner, 87, of Traverse City passed away peacefully with his family by his side on October 3, 2022.

Ken was born on July 31, 1935 in Detroit, MI to the late Arnold and Isabelle (Smillie) Warner. He married his high school sweetheart Sally Ann Salmonson on November 27, 1954.

Ken attended MSU and graduated with a degree in Veterinary Medicine in 1959. He and Sally settled in Stevensville, Michigan where they raised their family of 6. They were active members of the Stevensville United Methodist Church. He had a thriving practice for 36 years, known as Lakeshore Animal Clinic. Ken, affectionately known as Doc Warner, was appreciated for his compassionate care of our furry friends.

Ken and Sally built their retirement home in Traverse City in 1998 where many beautiful memories were made. Central United Methodist became their up north church home where Ken discovered thru mission work his heart for Haiti. He was also passionate about his hurricane relief efforts in the south. Ken was an active member of the chancel choir where he was well known in the bass section.

Whether it was growing oak trees from acorns, his love of birds, sailing, fishing contests with the grandkids, woodworking, camping, skiing out west with family and friends… Kens passions have touched us all. Most importantly, Ken believed his greatest assets were his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Although, his favorite golden retriever Nate held a special spot in his heart.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Mae Wagner and Dorothy (Bob) Bristow.

Ken is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 68 years, Sally; his brother-in-law Don Wagner; their children Mark Warner, Jillian Mead, Lynn (Richard) VanFleet, Craig (Tonda) Warner, Julie (John) Leahy and Amy (Bill) Colombo, 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

The memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at 11 am at Central United Methodist Church in Traverse City, Michigan with visitation beginning one hour prior.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the music program at Central United Methodist Church.
