TRAVERSE CITY — Kent Eugene Couturier, 59, of Traverse City, passed away, Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, after a massive heart attack. Kent was born on May 1, 1955, in Frankfort, to James E. and Adell (Maksimowicz) Winnie.
He attended Immaculate Conception, where he was an altar server and a Boy Scout. Kent attended Traverse City St. Francis.
After attendance at St. Francis he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Kent was honorably discharged in 1977. He then served our country as an Army Reservist with the 182nd Transportation Company until 1983.
An avid golfer, Kent would hit the links at every opportunity. He also loved to ski and could never get enough of ESPN, especially football.
After making a life for himself in California for many years Kent recently returned to his beloved Northern Michigan to reunite with family and friends.
Surviving Kent are his daughter, Holly (Chay) Gray; granddaughters, Nadia and Sophia; mother, Adell Maksimowicz; stepfather, Fred (Lucy) Couturier; siblings, James "Skip" (Mary) Couturier, Diane McArthur, Mike (Holly) Couturier and Nan (Larry) Lewis; first wife and mother to his only child, Janelle Wheat; former wife, Dianne Shute; many nieces and nephews; and numerous loving family members and friends.
Kent was preceded in death by his father, Jim Winnie; stepfather, Stan Maksimowicz; and nephew, Tony Lewis.
His final act on this earth was becoming a Gift of Life donor.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., with a visitation from 10 to 11 a.m., on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Deacon Rene Hoenscheid will officiate.
