Kimberlee Todd Scheffler, 59, of Interlochen passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 6, 2016 in her home surrounded by her family, following a courageous year long battle with ovarian cancer. Kim was born on January 5, 1957 in Charlotte, NC to the late Kenneth and Gladys (Goggans) Todd. Guided by her faith and heritage, Kim lived her life as the epitome of southern grace and charm.
Kim grew up the middle sister of three girls in Charlotte, NC, Roanoke, VA and Jacksonville, FL. She attended Converse College in Spartanburg, SC where she earned her Bachelors of Music degree with Distinction in piano performance. While in college she worked at the Interlochen Arts Camp where she met her future husband and love of her life, Tim Scheffler. They were married on December 27, 1980 in Lakeland, FL. After their wedding they resided in Atlanta, GA and San Antonio, TX, where they had their two daughters, before settling in northern Michigan in 1993. Kim found and promoted music in all aspects of her life. For over 30 years, she taught piano to many students, both privately and in class. She was a homemaker, was employed by Interlochen Center for the Arts in various capacities for over 26 years and most recently worked at Silver Fox Jewelry in the Grand Traverse Commons. Kim was a member, elder and assistant to the Director of Children's Ministries of the Presbyterian Church in Traverse City, played in several church hand bell choirs and is a past PTA President. Among her many pursuits, her most beloved profession was motherhood.
Kim is survived by her loving husband of nearly 36 years, Tim Scheffler, their two daughters; Leigh (Sam) Boase-Miller and Kenna (Scott) Criscione and granddaughter, Lennon plus one due in January. Also surviving are her sisters and their families; Pamela (James) Moye, Mindy, John, Jamie, Robbie and Julianne (Ron) Pell, Katy, Caroline, and Jackson.
Friends are welcome to visit with Kim's family from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, November 11, 2016 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth St., Traverse City, MI 49684.
A Memorial Service honoring Kim will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at the Presbyterian Church, 701 Westminster Rd., Traverse City, MI 49686. The Rev. José H. Lopez will officiate.
