TRAVERSE CITY — Kuhlman Fluehr, 80, of Traverse City and formerly of Bloomfield Hills, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011, at Boardman Lake Glens. Kuhlman was born on May 27, 1931, in Freeport, ll., to the late George R. and Katherine L. (Kuhlman) Fluehr. Kuhlman was brought up in Bay City. He graduated from Bay City Central High School. He then went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from Principia College. Kuhlman honorably served in the United States Army as Post Chaplain's Assistant for six different Post Chaplain's at Fort Campbell, Ky.During his time in service, he married his high school sweetheart, Janet Marie Deuscher, on April 22, 1955, in Carmel, Calif. For many years he was Vice President of Corporate Relations for the Kuhlman Corporation. He was instrumental in taking Kuhlman Corporation from a small manufacturing company to a listing on the New York Stock Exchange. Kuhlman was a lifelong, devoted Christian Scientist. Kuhlman loved people and was a great communicator. He enjoyed introducing friends to friends and building those relationships. He touched many lives in wonderful ways. Life itself was a celebration! He'll be deeply missed by his family and friends. Surviving Kuhlman are Janet, his wife of 56 years; daughter, Janet "Jandy" Cooley; son-in-law, James T. Cooley; son, Glenn K. Fluehr; daughter-in-law, Paulina Fluehr; grandchildren, Heather "Tiffany" and Victoria Fluehr, Paige and Tanner Cooley; brother, David Fluehr; sister-in-law, Janet Meynell Fluehr; and many nieces, nephews and friends. A memorial service will be held for Kuhlman at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be directed in Kuhlman's name to Principa College, Elsah, Ill., The Pathfinder School, Traverse City, First Church of Christ, Scientist, Traverse City, Camps Leelanau/Kohana, Glen Arbor, or to a charity of one's choice.
