Larry Southwick, age 82, of Interlochen, Michigan, passed away peacefully at his home on June 11, 2025.
A proud veteran, Larry served honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After returning home to Michigan, he worked for ten years with the Board of Water & Light in Lansing. Eventually, he moved north to Interlochen, where he began a long and dedicated career as a Lineman with Cherryland Electric. He worked tirelessly for many years, supporting his community with both strength and humility.
Larry was born on January 7, 1943, in Michigan to Herbert Southwick and Moyna Beem. He was one of three children, growing up alongside his brother Steven and sister Yvonne. Larry later married the love of his life, Elaine (née Phillips), and together they built a blended and loving family.
Known for his steady presence, warm smile, and deep love for his family, Larry was a devoted husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He never forgot a birthday or holiday and was always quick to share stories about his children and grandchildren's accomplishments. His love for golf was well known, and he eagerly awaited the spring each year to get back out on the course with his buddies.
Larry was preceded in death by: His father, Herbert Southwick; mother, Moyna Beem; beloved wife, Elaine Southwick; daughter, Susan Southwick; and stepson, Ralph Childers.
He is survived by: His son, Timothy Southwick; stepdaughters, Kimberly MacDonald, Liberty Childers; and step-son Brian Childers; grandchildren, Sarah, Keagan, Amanda, Paul James, Kloi, Alyssa, Madison, Cade, Karstyn, Dakota, and Isiah; brother, Steven Southwick; and sister, Yvonne Southwick and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service to celebrate Larry's life will take place on Friday, June 20, 2025, at Minar Bible Church in Mesick. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the service starting at 11:00 a.m. Military Honors and a graveside service will follow at Grant Cemetery on Zue Road at 12:30 p.m., with a luncheon to follow back at the church.
Larry's memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know him. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
