TRAVERSE CITY — Laura Mae Case, 93, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully at home, April 20, 2011, surrounded by family; she will be missed by all who knew her. Laura was born Dec. 1, 1917, in Benton Harbor, to the late Harry F. Meyers and Dorothy Sells. She married Ralph A. Case Jr. on March 29, 1946, in Benton Harbor. They were happily married 63 years.She was employed as an assembler and later moved to line foreman for the VM Corporation in Benton Harbor. In January of 1953 she was awarded a diploma in dressmaking and designing with pattern drafting from the International Correspondence Schools in Scranton, Pa.In 1955, as members of the National Grange, Ralph became the Master and Laura the Lecturer for the Pottowatomie Grange #722 in Benton Harbor.In 1961, Ralph, Laura and their two children moved from the Benton Harbor area to Traverse City and settled on property they had bought on Silver Lake. After her children were in school full time, she returned to her love of sewing and became head seamstress with the Country Squire Men's Wear, where she was employed for over 15 years.After retiring from the Country Squire Men's Wear, she devoted her attention to her family and grandchildren. She loved sitting on her front porch and looking out on the lake.Laura is survived by her two sons, Roger (Robin) Case and Brian (Kelly) Case, both of Traverse City; four grandchildren, Nichole, Christine, Megan and Kyle; three nieces, Carol Head, of Portage, Bonnie Nitz, of Kalamazoo, and Connie May, also of Kalamazoo; and many friends.Laura was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; her parents; and three sisters, Donna, Jean and Norma.Ralph and Laura took great pleasure in sharing the lake frontage with family and friends, so the family has decided to have a memorial service for Laura on Sunday, July 10, at 2 p.m., at the home of Ralph and Laura, 289 E. Silver Lake Road N. A picnic lunch will follow.
