Laura M. Korb

August 18, 1920 — September 4, 2012

Laura M. Korb, 92, lifetime Grand Traverse area resident, passed away at her home on Tuesday, September 4, 2012. Laura was born in Hannah, Michigan on August 18, 1920, the daughter of Frank and Veronica (Steffes) Cavitch.

After her father passed away in 1927, Laura and her brother Joseph went to live with their grandparents, Anton and Minnie Steffes, while their mother traveled to Grand Rapids to find work. Upon returning to this area, their mother married Joseph Rusch, whom mom always referred to as "a wonderful and caring stepfather".

Laura married Jerome F. Korb on September 22, 1938 at St. Francis Catholic Church. They enjoyed 67 wonderful years together until his death on January 6, 2006.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Variety Club and the Forget-Me-Not Flower Club. She also worked on elections for East Bay Township for 15 years. After Jerome's retirement, they enjoyed wintering in Florida for several years.

Mom was a great homemaker and baker and all of us will miss her wonderful baked goods, as well as her special stuffing at Thanksgiving. At family gatherings, the great grandchildren would wait by the door for "Great Grammy" to arrive to see if she brought a loaf or two of her famous banana bread. Mom was also gifted with a great sense of humor, with which she kept all of us laughing until the end.

Blessed to be born to these wonderful parents are three daughters, Beverly (Carl) Stricker of Carrollton, Texas, Doris (Doug) Murdick of Acme, and Darlene (Ed) Belanger of Suttons Bay. Also surviving is sister-in-law Cleo Cavitch, nine grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, with the first great, great grandchild due in March.

Laura was preceded in death by her husband Jerome, her parents and her brother Joseph Cavitch.

We would like to thank Dr. Robert Pacer, nurse Rose, Kurt Crosby, PA and hospice nurses Heidi and Nancy for their excellent care and compassion. May God continue to bless all of you for the wonderful work you do.

Visitation for Laura will take place on Thursday, September 6, 2012 from 4-8pm at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home with a Rosary held at 7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11am on Friday, September 7, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with a visitation held one hour prior at the church. Fr. James Hayden will serve as officiant. Burial will take place at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or Munson Hospice.

From your daughters and the "sons" you loved as your own, we'll miss you Mom, but we know you are dancing with Dad once again – May You Rest in Peace.
