Obituary

Laura B. Sabol, 86, of Traverse City, passed away June 6, 2021, at the Grand Traverse Pavilions.
Laura was born on December 10, 1934 to the late Walter and Elsie (Horning) Allam in Romeo, MI. She was the youngest of 7 children and now joins her siblings; Ann, Jean, David, Albert, Arthur and Edward who have preceded her in death.
As a young woman, Laura met and fell in love with "fly boy", Robert "Bob" Sabol (1930-2017) while he was stationed at Wurtsmith Air Force Base in Oscoda, MI. They were married on February 27, 1954, made their home in Cleveland, Ohio, Brighton, Michigan and finally in Traverse City. They were married for 63 years.
Laura had many talents but was known for her skills as a pianist. Whether it was simply playing for enjoyment, accompanying her daughters and several of their friends for solo contests, or playing for Bob and his brothers as they sang Slovak Christmas Carols and perhaps some drinking songs; she loved to play music. Laura and Bob were also great dancers together, so much so that their dance club group in Cleveland would wait for them to start the dancing before the group could start. Additionally, Laura was an avid bowler and belonged to the "200" club in her league.
Laura was also a great homemaker as she sewed for her children, baked many cookies, cakes and pies, and entertained friends and family frequently. And Laura had many friends, whether from her church, neighborhood, or an organization to which she belonged. She could be counted on to provide a great dish for potlucks or for an event at church.
Her life in Michigan continued many of those activities and more, making good friends, traveling, cheering vigorously for the Detroit Pistons, and caring for her family. She used her skills as a pianist as she volunteered for Interlochen Arts Camp working with young children, something she enjoyed immensely.
Laura is survived and missed greatly by her daughters; Carole (Chris) McKee, Barbara (William Denza) Specht and Katheryn Botello as well as her grandchildren; Kimberly, Kyle, Alexzandra and Michael.
She is preceded in death by her spouse, parents and all her siblings.
A Memorial Mass will take place on Friday June 18, 2021, at St. Patrick Catholic Church at 11:00am with visitation from 10:00am until the beginning of the service. A luncheon will follow the service.
Memorial contributions in Laura's honor may be directed to the Interlochen Arts Academy or the Grand Traverse Pavilions.
Laura and her family are being cared for by the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
