Laura's Fire: Burning from now until dusk on Saturday, June 18th.
Laura Marie DeVille-Sherman, 47, of Traverse City, passed away on June 15, 2016.
Born on May 20, 1969 in Flint, Laura entered the world with a smile that would light up a room and even into the last moments of her life on earth she could still do the same.
Her beautiful soul and selfless ways turned a friend for a minute into a family member for life in her book.
As a member of the Grand Traverse Band, Laura volunteered endless hours with the National Cherry Festival for the Native American Culture during Heritage Days, helping with the float, educating the community and enjoying the company of complete strangers, as soon they too would be friends.
In addition to all her dedication and hard work with the tribe, Laura spent many hours educating, fundraising and speaking on behalf of hemp oil and cannabis for medical purposes. Laura, a 10 year cancer fighter, always beat the odds and the diagnosis.
Laura would use her voice to advocate and also her voice to follow one of her greatest passions. Laura was the lead singer of Choice Meats, a band that has stood by her during some of the worst and helped to keep her spirits high with a song.
