Northport – Laverne 'Jim' James Wetherbee Jr., 94, of Northport passed away at home surrounded by his family on September 4, 2016. Jim was born on August 20, 1922 to Laverne and Lillian (Shanley) Wetherbee in Kalamazoo, MI. He enlisted in the United States Coast Guard, and later the United States Navy as an aviation cadet. He married Marilyn Sharp on September 8, 1945 and they moved to Northport in 1972. Jim was a gifted artist and shipwright and was employed for many years as a commercial artist and boat builder. He enjoyed working with his hands and spending time with his family. Jim is survived by his daughter Susan (Samy) Yassa of Alexandria, Egypt; sons Thomas (Debra) of Northport, Stephen (Char Bickel) of Northport, 5 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. As per Jim's wishes cremation has taken place. The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.
