LaVonne Marie Casselman, 85, of Traverse City passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 29, 2013 at her daughter's home. LaVonne was born on November 29, 1928 in Flint, Michigan to the late Harley and Emma (Patzwall) Beckner. She was married to Russell H. Casselman on April 29, 1953. He preceded her in death on November 17, 1978. LaVonne had been employed as a surgical clerk with Hurley Medical Center until her retirement in 1979. She moved to Buckley in 1997, she was a faithful member of Bible Baptist Church. Among her interests LaVonne loved to travel, she has made many trips aboard, including two trips to the Holy Land. Her greatest love was spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
LaVonne is survived by two sons and a daughter; William (Leslie) Casselman, Russell (Anita) Casselman and Lynn (Rob) West; nine grandchildren; Sarah (Scott) Hinkley, Joshua (Erin) Casselman, Jason Casselman, Daniel Casselman, Caleb (fiancée Pepa) Casselman, Hannah Casselman, Ryan (Jennifer) West, Justin (Katie) West and Scott West. Also surviving are five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her Husband, Russell, a sister, Erma Rose and a brother, Kenneth Beckner.
LaVonne's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Grand Traverse Area Commission on Aging for all their help and support.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
A memorial service honoring LaVonne will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 3, 2014 at Bible Baptist Church, 1915 Cass Road, Traverse City, with visiting one hour prior to the service.
