Lavonne Jean Girardin

Traverse City-LaVonne J. Girardin, 60, of Traverse City, died early Wednesday morning, June 5, 2013, at Munson Hospice House, surrounded by her loving family. She courageously battled cancer for nine years and never stopped giving of herself in love, cheerfulness and caring.

Born October 6, 1952, in Anoka, MN, she was the adopted daughter of the late Frank and Lillian (Klapp) Makin. On April 7, 1984, in Shelby, she married the love of her life, Mark Allan Girardin.

She will be remembered for her extreme happiness, nurturing and forgiving ways and her ability to be a good listener. She was very family oriented and loved frequent family gatherings. She thoroughly enjoyed her role as a wife, mother and grandmother. LaVonne was a kind, gentle, giving person who was loved and highly respected. She was always dispensing sunshine and joy.

LaVonne will be fondly remembered for wearing beautiful fancy scarves and her Coco Chanel perfume.

She is survived by her husband, Mark A Girardin, of Traverse City; children, Stephanie (Scott) Sherman, of Hart , Amber Joy (Martin) Tuchbaum, of Interlochen, and Michael Girardin, of Interlochen; and four adorable grandchildren, Sydney and Shay Sherman and Taylor and Traverse Tuchbaum; sisters, Kristi Archer, of Niles, Sanda (Montie) Harvel, of Shelby and Gail Wurtz, of Norton Shores; along with many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Friday, June 7, 2013, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., where the Girardin family will receive friends.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, June 8, 2013, at 10 a.m., Rev. Christopher Lane will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be directed to Munson Hospice House. Envelopes may be obtained at the funeral home.
