Lavonne Ann (Koenig) Mathison, 97, a life-long resident of the Traverse City area died on Wednesday, November 6, 2019.
She was the fourth generation of the Koenig family to live in the area. She was born at home on September 6, 1922 as the daughter of Ben H. and Frieda (Muchow) Koenig. She was a 1940 graduate of Traverse City Central High School.
On September 14, 1941 she married Frank Edmund Mathison who died in 2008.
Lavonne was primarily a homemaker but enjoyed many creative endeavors. Her writing appeared in large varieties of publications. Her artwork, primarily paintings, are in collections all across the Unite States and several foreign countries. She will also be remembered for her illustrations, original silhouettes and unusual dolls.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, brother Kenneth, two daughters Sally (Barth) Middleton and Nancy Dunlap.
Lavonne is survived by her daughters Linda Duiven of Seattle, WA and Betsy (Robert) Banta of Mt. Pleasant; granddaughters Jan Duiven, Stephanie (Paul) Arthur and two great grandsons, Zach Arthur and Nate Arthur.
Private services will take place at Oakwood Cemetery. The family is being cared for by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
