Lee Stephenson, 92, of Traverse City passed away at her home on October 4, 2017.

Lee was born on March 24, 1925 in Traverse City to the late Leo G. and Helen Hughes (DeWitt) Culman.

In 1948, Lee married the love of her life Walter Stephenson at St. Francis Catholic Church.

Lee was a teacher. She taught french, spanish, german and art. She was also a ski instructor and loved to play tennis. Lee was a member of the victorious all girl sailing crew that sailed from Traverse City to Northport in the 1960's. In later years she enjoyed playing Solitaire, Mahjong and Bunko.

Lee is survived by her daughter Kathryn "Katie" (Greg) Carlisle; grandson Tony (Kate) Carlisle; great grandson Austin; brother Louis P. (Marjorie) Culman; niece Lynn (David) Gatewood and half-sister Kay (Jim) Witte.

Lee was preceded in death by her husband Walter, sister Kathryn Culman and nephew Mark Culman.

Friends are invited to help the family celebrate Lee's life on Thursday October 12, 2017 from 3 to 5 pm at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Deacon Rene Hoenscheid will lead prayers at 3 pm.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to start an education fund for Lee's beloved great grandson Austin.
