Leola L. Yankee, 96, of Traverse City passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Boardman Lake Glens – Inverness. Leola was born on January 21, 1922 in Traverse City on the Bohrer family farm to the late Otto and Urina (Birmley) Bohrer. She married the love of her life Edward J. Yankee on October 10, 1945 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He preceded her in death on July 9, 1997. Leola was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church for over 60 years. She was also a member of T.O.P.S. Leola was very active, she loved being outdoors, she completed the Labor Day Mackinac Bridge Walk at the age of 80, she also cross country skied into her eighties. Spending time with her family was her greatest joy, especially "frog poking" with her grandchildren around the family pond.

Leola is survived by her two daughters and three sons; Judy, Nancy, Larry (Kathy), Gary (Janet), and Timothy (Lori). Also surviving are 12 grandchildren; Jeff (Erinn), Julie (Matt), Jennifer (Nick), Erin (Travis), Mason (Jennifer) Lindsay (Josh), Hannah (Elliot) Andrew (Kayela), Elizabeth (Mario), Leanne (Grant), Gregory (Tara), Jonathon (Cassandra) as well as 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters; Ralph Bohrer, Maxine Pelizzari, Gwendolyn Strait and Albert Bohrer.

A funeral service honoring Leola was held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home with burial at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
