Leona Louise Reed

Leona Louise Reed, age 91, of Traverse City, Michigan, (formerly of Central Lake), passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at her home surrounded by her family. Leona (Lee) was born on November 26, 1934 in Central Lake, Michigan to the late Herman and Nora (Allers) Evans.

Leona was born the second oldest of ten children in Central Lake, Michigan. She earned her LPN degree and then worked for a short time at Munson Hospital before getting married.

She married the love of her life Danny James Reed on May 21, 1955.

Lee loved to sew. She is famous for making her personalized beach towels. You knew you were a member of the family when you received your towel.

In her free time, Lee would enjoy fishing, blueberry picking and visiting her family.

She retired from the TCAPS Transportation System after 30+ years.

Lee leaves behind her children Don and Barb (Lautner) Reed, Eric Reed, Jim and Louann (Reed) Hurst, and Tod and Joni (Reed) Lash. There are 13 grandchildren that will greatly miss her along with many great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Danny, of 61 years; her daughter, Sandy; parents; two sisters, and four brothers.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Aunt Linda Talbot and Aunt Lois Shisler who spent the last week with the family helping to care for Lee and the caring staff of Munson Healthcare Hospice for their support and compassion for Lee during the whole length of her illness.

Lee’s ashes will be placed next to her husband at 10:00 a.m. on September 19, 2026 at Pleasonton Township Cemetery in Bear Lake. A memorial service and luncheon will take place later that day at 2:00 p.m. at the Cherryland VFW Post 2780, 3400 Veterans Dr., Traverse City, MI 49684.
