Leonard Alexander Galla of Traverse City, Michigan, age 83, passed away on May 14, 2023. He rests now, in the arms of his Lord and Savior.
Len was born on March 27, 1940, to Peter and Bernadine (Kabot) Galla in Cedar, MI. After school, he proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserve for eight years.
Len married his best friend and soulmate, Charlene Kuhn in July of 1966 and the couple moved to Traverse City to raise their family. Len worked as a machine operator for fifty years before his retirement. He was a faithful servant to his Lord and a devout member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Len loved listening and dancing to polka music. Additionally, he played in several local softball and blooper ball leagues as well as being an original member of the Relics softball team. Len was an avid bowler in local leagues for over fifty years and he was inducted into the Traverse City Bowling Hall of Fame in 2008. If there was a Tigers, Lions, Redwings, or U of M game on television, or a PBA tournament, you could find Len watching it.
Len was a great husband, dad, grandfather, and a true and loyal friend. He had a great sense of humor, and he will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Len is survived by his wife Charlene; children Dean (Brenda) Galla, Leonard Galla, Tara (Scott) Hakes, and Doug (Danielle) Galla; sister Theresa Kulanda, sisters in-law: Helen Galla and Pauline Galla; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, along with many dear friends and beloved members of the family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Bernadine Galla, mother in-law Florence Kuhn, brothers Edward Galla and Raymond Galla.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Anthony Citro at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 308 North Cedar Street, Traverse City, MI 49684.
There will be a time of visitation one hour prior to Mass, during which, there will be a praying of the Rosary at 10:00 a.m.
Immediately following Mass, you are cordially invited by the family for a continued time of fellowship, food, and refreshments at the church.
