TRAVERSE CITY — Leonard L. Hamilton, 83, a lifelong resident of Traverse City, died early Thursday morning, March 8, 2012, at Munson Medical Center.An honorably discharged veteran, Leonard faithfully served his county with the United States Army during World War II.Leonard was a longtime member of Williamsburg United Methodist Church, where he enjoyed attending church services and interacting with his many friends. At church he was affectionately known as "The Hugger". He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Shirley A. Hamilton, of Williamsburg; daughter, Jean (Dennis) Vallad, of Clarkston; son, Larry (Vickie) Hamilton, of Traverse City; grandchildren, Nicole (Tom) Stefanac, Allison (Todd) Murphy, Lisa Vallad and Kelli Hamilton; great-grandchildren, Sophie, Norah and Ryan; sisters, Anna Mae Hamilton and Marge Larson; and brothers, Lawrence (Shirley) Hamilton and Bernard Hamilton.Leonard was preceded in death by siblings, Don, Cecilia and Dorothy .Memorial services will be held at Williamsburg United Methodist Church on Saturday, March 31, 2012, at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Geri Litchfield will officiate. Cremation has taken place.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Williamsburg United Methodist Church or to Meals on Wheels.
