INTERLOCHEN - Leonard Ernest Sass, 87, of Interlochen, passed away on January 24, 2018. Leonard was born on October 23, 1930 in Port Huron, MI, to the late William and Martha (Paul) Sass.
Leonard is a veteran of The Korean war and honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy.
He married Hazel L Heins on Saturday, April 14, 1956 in Royal Oak, and the couple raised their three children and celebrated 62 years of marriage together.
Leonard lived in the area since 1994 and was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Interlochen.
He was employed with Michigan Bell for 38 years as a cable splicer. He enjoyed bowling, singing and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife Hazel; daughters, Luanne (Jim) Teller of Oxford MI., Wendy (Randy) Sass-Barber of North Branch, MI.; a son, Brian T. Sass of Interlochen; 4 grandchildren; brother, Earl (Frances) O. Sass, and many loving nephews and nieces.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Elva T Rouley of Mt. Pleasant, MI., Viola "Susie" H. Veen
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 10:30 am. at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Interlochen.
