Traverse City - Lester Irish, 81, of Traverse City passed away at home on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 surrounded by his family. If you knew him, then you know what a great loss the family is experiencing. He'll be laid to rest next to his mother, who died when he was only 2; she's been waiting a long time to see her little boy again. He had a great life, worked hard and sacrificed a lot for all his kids. He will never be forgotten.
Lester was born on May 30, 1931 in Traverse City to the late Clifford and Ethelyn (Wheelock) Irish. He proudly served our country as a member of the United States Army Air Corps. He worked multiple jobs to raise his children on his own and retired from the Traverse City State Hospital. His life activities revolved around his children. Above all else, he was an excellent father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.
Lester is survived by his kids, Gary (Karen) Irish, Lori (Cameron) Garst, Randy Irish, Connie (Mark) Drake, Leslie Irish and Laurie Irish, grandchildren Megan (Johnny) Barlow, Matthew Irish, Carrie Irish, Lisa (Ryan) Groleau, Joe (Catie) Rokos, Jessi (Brandon) Weir, Austin Bannister and Morgan Bannister; great grandchildren William, Nichole and Catilyn; brothers Milt and Bernie, and sisters Joann, Mary and Judy; long time companion Gladys Petitt and loyal cat Boo Boo.
Lester was preceded in death by his parents Clifford and Ethelyn, brothers Burt and Richard and sister Maxine.
Visitation for friends and family will take place on Friday, August, 24, 2012 from 12:00 noon until 1:00 pm at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at Oakwood Cemetery at 2:00 pm.
