Lewis E. Burden Sr, age 79, of Traverse City, Michigan, passed away suddenly on Sunday, September 1, 2024. Lewis was born on January 12, 1945 in Traverse City, Michigan, to the late Edward "Shorty" Burden and his wife Victoria.
Lewis was a life-long resident of Traverse City. He graduated in 1963 from St. Francis High School and was married on July 18,1964 to his wife of nearly 50 years Cathee Ann Godfrey. Cathee passed in February of 2014. Lewis worked at Burwoods Products until the company closed, and retired from Munson Hospital, working logistics. He also enjoyed working in his yard and was an voracious reader. He was an avid fisherman, and successful distance runner competing in the 1991 Boston Marathon at the age of 46. A proud and loving brother, father and grandfather Lewis(Grandpa) is survived by 2 sisters, Cathy and Rose; his children, Lewis Jr., Larry, Deb and their spouses, as well as a daughter in his heart, Beckey. Most importantly he is survived by his 11 grand children, sharing a unique and special relationship with each.
Visitation and a Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 13th at Reynolds-Jonkhoff on 6th St. The service will be led by his son, Lew.
There will be a reception following the service. Lewis ashes will be buried at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens Cemetery at 3 p.m. the same date next to his wife Cathee.
