Linda Sue Day, age 77 of Traverse City, died on Monday, January 8, 2024 at the Grand Traverse Pavilions. She was born on August 18, 1947 at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Rapids to the late Wilbur and Maxine Lorentz.
She graduated from Boyne City High School on June 3, 1965 and soon thereafter married David Day, Sr. on June 5, 1965. They spent 44 years together and raised three children in Traverse City.
She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church for many years. Linda, along with her husband, taught Sunday school to 4- and 5-year-olds for many years. She also participated in Awana and in later years she volunteered in the church nursery.
She was a very avid reader, known to read an entire book in a couple of days. Oftentimes, a word search/puzzle book was never far from her reach.
She was also a seamstress making clothes for her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed knitting.
In earlier years, she and her husband planted a large garden and were known for sharing what they grew. Linda would spend many hours each August canning vegetables, pickles and fruits.
Linda is survived by her three children; David Day, Jr. (Butch) of Woodbury, Minnesota; Sonia (Mark) Engels of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin and Michelle (Brian) Fouch of Traverse City. She is further survived by her three grandchildren; Zachary Engels, Steven (Courtney) Fouch and Emilee (Justin) Leusby and her four great-grandchildren, Asher, Gracie, Weslynn and Waylan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David; her parents, Wilbur and Maxine Lorentz, her sister, Donna Dixon, and four brothers; Cleo, Richard, Wilbur Jr. and Gordon.
At Linda's request, a funeral will not be held. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Grand Traverse Pavilions and Cowell Family Cancer Center for the care they provided for our mother.
