Obituary

Lloyd "Carl" DeGrandchamp, Jr., 70, of Traverse City passed away Friday, August 10, 2018 at Munson Hospice House surrounded by his loving family.

Carl was born to Lloyd and Zane (Danhauser) DeGrandchamp in Detroit, MI. He married Christine Godfrey on November 21, 1970 in Walled Lake. They moved to Traverse City where they raised their family and he worked for Chef Pierre/Sara Lee for 36 years.

He was known for his off the wall sayings, sense of humor and one liners. Whether intentional or not, his quick wit would often make you stop and shake your head in wonder and disbelief. Carl had the ability to light up the room when he entered and his gentle and caring soul was evident by his willingness to help others in need. His family was his pride and joy, especially his adored grandchildren.

Carl enjoyed traveling, particularly cruises to the Caribbean and Mexico with his wife Chris. He loved to play golf, especially with his good buddy Tim, go camping, fishing, and hunting (naps in the woods), attend classic car shows, and visits to the casino. He was an avid fan and follower of the Detroit Tigers, Lions and Red Wings.

He is survived by his wife Chris of Traverse City; daughters April (Scott) Harroun of Lake Nebagamon, WI and Laura (Michael) Kroupa of Traverse City; sister Karen (Jerry Gillen) Stevens; brother Kris DeGrandchamp; grandchildren Gavin Kroupa and Molly Kroupa; sister-in-law Diane DeGrandchamp; sister-in-law Cathy Godfrey; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Phil and Denise (Godfrey) Stommel; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Robin Godfrey; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Steve and Cindy (Godfrey) Melichar; brother-in-law Steve Godfrey; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Larry DeGrandchamp.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Deacon Rene Hoenscheid will officiate.

Because of Carl's great love of the game of golf, those wishing an expression of sympathy are encouraged to direct contributions to Traverse City Junior Golf Association, 310 West Front Street, Traverse City, MI 49684, which funds scholarships and camps for children of all ages to learn and appreciate the game.
