Lois Elaine Bathje, 93, of Traverse City, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 13, 2023.
Born October 26, 1929 in Flint she was the daughter of the late Albert and Helen Fahselt. Lois married Arnold A. Bathje on August 10, 1949 at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Flint. Their marriage was built upon a strong devotion to God and each other, coupled with much love and understanding and enjoyed 61 years together. Before settling in Traverse City in 1975, Lois lived in Richmond, Rogers City and East Detroit. Lois spent years working in a library, substitute teaching and once in Traverse City worked at Benson Optical for 25 years.
Lois was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church and attended her bible study group whenever possible. She also enjoyed making afghan blankets, Swedish weaving, crocheting and made many cross stitch quilts for all great grandchildren.
Lois and Arnold had four sons James, Paul, Dave and Steve (Roxanne) of Grand Rapids; grandchildren Andrew (Mary) of Traverse City, Jennifer (Chad) Morris of Byron Center and Christopher (Mary Beth) of Vicksburg; great grandchildren Dylan, Caitlyn, Adelyn Morris and Emma Bathje.
In addition to her parents, Lois was preceded in death by her husband Arnold (July 7, 2010), three sons Paul and James in infancy and David (September 4, 2022); her brother Bruce Fahselt and two sisters Margery Barden and Margaret Speckman.
Visitation for friends and family will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Monday, January 23, 2023 from 9:30 am to 11:30 am. The funeral service celebrating her life will follow at 11:30 am. The Rev. Michael Goers will officiate. Burial will be at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
