TRAVERSE CITY — Lois "Gerry" Geraldine Sheckler, 91, of Traverse City, peacefully passed away with her family by her side Monday, April 18, 2011. Gerry was born Sept. 2, 1919, in Columbus, Ohio, to William and Fannie Spencer. At the age of three Gerry moved to Grand Rapids, where she went to Creston High School and then attended Davenport College. She received an associate's degree in business there. On Aug. 29, 1947, she married the love of her life, Linn Sheckler, after meeting him in college. In 1967 they moved to Traverse City, where Gerry worked for Munson Medical Center Credit Union and soon became the manager. She later opened two gift shops in Traverse City, which she ran for over 20 years. Gerry loved to go dancing, often square and round dancing. She could often be found taking care of her garden at home, working on crossword puzzles or watching Jeopardy. Gerry is survived by Linn, her husband of 63 years; three children, Kathleen (Michael) Gebhard, of Central Lake, Janet (Matthew) Stratton, of Grand Rapids, and Doug (Michelle) Sheckler, of Cedarville; and four beautiful granddaughters, Elizabeth (Jason) Jones, Jennifer (Conrad) Coipel, Kelly Sheckler and Jillian Burton. Gerry was preceded in death by her parents, William and Fannie Spencer; sister, Margaret Minnie Wright; and brother, Percival Spencer. Services for Gerry will be held at First Congregational Church on Thursday, April 21, at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior. Pastor Gary Hogue will be officiating. There will be a luncheon and burial at Grand Traverse Memorial Garden following the service. Please view Gerry's online guestbook at www.reynolds-jonkhoff.com .
