Lois Jane Swierad

Springfield-Lois Jane Swierad, 87, formerly of Glen Arbor, passed away peacefully Monday, June 25, 2018 at the Care Community Center of Springfield.

Lois was born in Muskegon, MI to Verlin and Katherine (Williams) Stearns on March 29, 1931. She attended beauty school and earned her cosmetologist license. Lois moved back to Glen Arbor and worked at the Glen Lake Beauty Salon, eventually purchasing the salon and running it for many years. She met the love of her life, Ted Swierad, at a basketball game he was playing in while he was stationed at the Air Force Base in Empire.

Lois loved the Glen Arbor community, Leelanau County and the Grand Traverse region. She gave freely of her time and talents to an unending list of organizations, but concentrated mainly on the Glen Lake Reformed Church, where she was a founding member. She spent countless hours volunteering with the Zonta Club of Leelanau County and promoting Habitat for Humanity of Grand Traverse.

Lois is survived by her daughter Christie Schlosser of Three Rivers; grand-daughters Rachel Schlosser and Katie (Christopher) Wetzel; great grand-daughters Destiny Schlosser, Riley Wetzel and Tommie-Raye Person.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ted Swierad; parents Verlin and Katherine (Williams) Stearns; sons Joel Swierad and Mark Swierad; and son-in-law Tom Schlosser.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Private graveside services will be held at a later date.
