Lonna Irene Ramsby, 62, of Traverse City, lost a valiant two-year battle with cancer and went to be with Jesus on Palm Sunday, April 13th, 2025. She passed quietly and in peace in her home surrounded by family and close friends.
She was born on August 20th, 1962, to David and Sharon Briggs in Pontiac, MI.
Lonna attended Central Michigan University where she majored in math and science and went on to become a grade school teacher.
She married Henry Ramsby on July 23rd, 1988 and they had two children, Tyler and Hannah Ramsby.
She worked as an elementary school teacher in Alba and Fife Lake before leaving work to stay home and become a full time mom. In her later years she went back to work part time as a substitute teacher for Traverse City Area Public Schools.
Lonna enjoyed traveling, whether it was camping in the UP or sitting on the beach in Florida. She loved reading, crafting, and sitting by the fireplace on a snowy Michigan night. She particularly loved music and to help ease anxious times during Covid, Lonna pioneered Friday Night Fun. She invited good friends over to sing and dance in the yard around the firepit and enforced social distancing by separating everyone the length of a broomstick. Her quirky sense of humor was inimitable.
During her battle with cancer she put on a brave face, never complained, and became an inspiration of hope and courage to all who assisted her on her final journey.
Lonna is survived by her husband, Henry Ramsby; her children, Tyler Ramsby and Hannah Ramsby (Scott Switzer); her siblings, Leann Winowiecki (Steve), David Briggs (Mary), Joe Briggs (Kathy); and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Sharon Briggs.
A memorial will be held on Saturday, April 19th at 3pm at Creekside Community Church.
