Lorene "Carol" Rains, age 89, formerly of Davisburg and Traverse City, died Tues. April 11, 2023. She was born in Avon Twp., Mi on April 25, 1933 to William and Iva (Jackson) Dawson. She graduated from Rochester High School in 1950 where she was Valedictorian of her class. She met her husband of 72 years, Vern Rains at the age of 14 and they were married in 1951. Carol was a secretary for Holly Schools for over 30 years and then was a secretary for Community Mental Health in Traverse City. She was a former member of the Davisburg United Methodist Church and the First Congregational Church of Traverse City. She was a member of the Davisburg Historical Society. After retiring in 1982, Carol and Vern moved to the Traverse City area. She excelled at sewing, cooking, canning, and raising her family. She and her husband Vern have great memories of traveling all over the United States and many parts of the world. She made many friends in the Holly and Traverse City areas. She is survived by her husband Vern; 2 children, Sue (Todd) Richardson and Steve (Rhonda) Rains; 6 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held from 5-7 PM Tues.
