MAPLE CITY — Louis Frank Stachnik, 86, of Maple City, passed away peacefully with his loving family at his side on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2014, at Munson Medical Center. Louis was born on Oct. 30, 1927, to the late John and Mary (Czerniak) Stachnik.
Louis honorably served our country in the United States Army and earned the Korean Service Medal.
He later married Katherine Popa on Sept. 14, 1957, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
Louis loved brook trout fishing, trees and nature in general. He was a gifted woodworker and made lots of furniture for his family.
He was a member of the Maple City Lion's Club and the St. Rita's Men's Club.
He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. His sense of humor and genuine smile will be missed by all who knew him.
Surviving Louis are his wife of 57 years, Kathy; daughters, Patti (Greg) Moore, Lori (fiance, Joe Povolo) Stachnik and Geri (Jeff) Klein; son, Todd Stachnik; grandchildren, Michael Moore, Lauren Moore, Patrick Klym, Mitchell Stachnik and Claire Stachnik; siblings, Ray Stachnik, Larry (Betty) Stachnik, Ben Stachnik and Lorraine (Tom) Kulanda; and many other loving family members and friends.
Louis was preceded in death by his siblings, Alice (Ed) Pawlak, Al Stachnik and an infant brother; and sisters-in-law, Betty Stachnik and Ilene Stachnik.
Visitation for Louis will take place today, Oct. 2, from 4 to 7 p.m., with a 7 p.m. scripture service, at St. Francis Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday at 3 p.m., also at St. Francis Catholic Church. Fr. Kenneth Stachnik will officiate.
