KEWADIN – Louise Hollenbeck, age 90, of Kewadin, passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at her home in the loving care of her family.
Louise was born on September 16, 1928 to Albert and Elsie (Kracht) Matteson in Benzonia.
Louise was born in Benzonia. She was raised in Traverse City and graduated from Traverse City High School. She worked at Oleson's Food store for several years. It's while she was working at Oleson's that she met her husband Melvin. Together, Melvin and Louise started their own business and became fruit growers. Louise preferred being outside as opposed to in, and was an extremely dedicated and hard worker. She was also an active member of the Kewadin United Methodist Church.
Louise is survived by her husband, Melvin, children; Carolyn Hollenbeck, Arlen Hollenbeck, grandchild, Liza Grace Hollenbeck, and her sister, Emily Matteson. Louise was preceded in death by her parents, brothers; Lloyd Matteson, Robert Matteson, sisters; Ardith Lautner, and Inez Clay.
Funeral services for Louise will take place at the Kewadin United Methodist Church on Saturday, May 4, 2019 with a visitation beginning at 12:00 pm until the time of the service at 1:00 pm. Pastor Howard Harvey will officiate. A brief graveside service will be at 4:00pm Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens where Louise will be laid to rest.
