Traverse City - Lowell C. Cate, 84 of Cedar MI., passed away peacefully of Feb. 28, 2014. Lowell was born on July 11, 1929, in Cedar, to the late Moses and Ruby (Nash) Cate. Upon graduating from Leland High School in 1947, he enlisted and honorably served our country in Maine, as an air station mechanic for the United States Navy. While in Maine, he married Rachel Rosman, on Oct. 31, 1951, and later the couple moved to Cedar, MI., where they raised two children together.
Lowell was employed for over 25 years as a rural United States postal carrier, with routes in Cedar and later in Traverse City. He enjoyed bird watching, watching college basketball, and was a skilled building contractor, who built their family home in Cedar.
He is survived by a daughter, Nikki (Bill Fuller) Peterson; a son, Rosman (Heidi) Cate and a sister, Carol (Robert) Spinniken; grandchildren, Brian R. Cate and David R. Cate.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Rachel; sisters, Donna Cate and Marjorie Drzewiecki; and long-time friend Pat Stange.
