TRAVERSE CITY — Lucille Audrey Boone, 101, a lifelong resident of Grand Traverse County and a member of one of Grand Traverse County's pioneer families, went home to be with her Lord Sunday, July 24, 2011, at Tendercare of Traverse City.Born on Wednesday, March 23, 1910, in Grand Traverse County, she was the daughter of the late Henry J. and Emma (Weiselberg) Witkop. On Wednesday, March 27, 1929, she married Daniel Joseph Boone in Traverse City. Having lived in Grand Traverse County from 1910 until 1929, and then in Leelanau County from 1929 until 1939, she moved back into Grand Traverse County in 1939, where she had lived since. Lucille's father, Henry J. Witkop, came to this country from Delszijl, Holland. Her mother was born here, but her parents came from Leibstadt, Workallen, East Prussia. A charter member of Bible Baptist Church, Lucille enjoyed cooking, crocheting and flowers. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, her family being very dear to her. Lucille is survived by her children, Dean L. (Eileen) Boone, of Charlotte, Duane L. (Rosemary) Boone, of Hubert, N.C., and James D. (Betsy) Boone, of Traverse City; son-in-law, George Bean, of Joliet, Ill.; a daughter-in-law, Lou Ann Boone, of Charlotte; 16 grandchildren; and many great and great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister, Ruth Goodman, of Traverse City; along with many nieces and nephews. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Daniel; her children, Dora Ann Boone Bean and Wendell G. Boone; a grandson, William Gene Boone; her siblings, Wilhelmina Youker, Alice Hoxie and Grace Slocum; a sister, Ruby, and a brother, Henry Jr., both of whom died in infancy.Visitation for friends and family will be held from 1 until 3 p.m. Friday, July 29, at The Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 3 p.m., also at the funeral home, with Lucille's dear friend, Rick Scott, officiating.
