Lucille Mary Luhrs

February 29, 1920 — May 2, 2014

Lucille Mary Luhrs, 94 of Traverse City, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 2, 2014 at Traverse Manor.

Lucille was born on February 29, 1920 in Hannah, MI to the late Joseph and Clara (Pahl) Miller. She married the late Carl A. Luhrs on June 19, 1940.

As a native of the area her entire life she has seen and heard everything. She graduated from St. Francis Catholic High School in 1938 and was the co-proprietor of the Sandwich Grill. Lucille was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. She was a tireless advocate for the developmentally disabled citizens. She was a founding member of Asgard, a sheltered workshop. She served on the board of GTI from 1991-1998. She was instrumental in connecting GTI with the Knights of Columbus for the annual Tootsie Roll Drive. She also served on the Community Living Center board and the Grand Traverse Management board.

Bowling was a huge part of Lucille's life. She was in the bowling hall of fame and continuously bowled for 46 years and 29 bowling tournament's. When she was not bowling she loved tending her many flower gardens. Even though she liked the raking that comes with fall she would always complain about those "damnable acorns" that plagued her yard. Family was also very important to Lucille. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her beautiful smile and loving heart will be treasured forever.

Surviving Lucille are her children, Charles Luhrs, Carolyn (Dale) Goddard, Paul (Patricia) Luhrs, Sheryl "Susie" Luhrs, son-in-law John Overmire, grandchildren, Caryn (Mike) Luhrs-McGinty, Natalie (Paul Ward) Luhrs, Robert (Pamela) Goddard, Melissa (Bill) Marsh, Boyd Overmire, Michelle (John) Kalaska, Kristine (Sajeeb) Wazed, Michelle (Trent) Vanoverloop, Scott Minier, 14 great-grandchildren, special niece Betty Valade and many other loving family members and friends.
