Lyn Martha Crandall 1921 - 2019
Lyn Crandall of Traverse City died peacefully in her sleep Wednesday morning, June 12, 2019 at the age of 97.
Lyn was born November 8, 1921 at home in Geddes, South Dakota to John and Elizabeth (Meis) Stork and was christened Adeline Martha Stork. After the death of her parents at age 8, Lyn resided with brothers and sisters until she moved to St. Louis, Missouri when she was 16 with her sister Margaret. There, Lyn attended and graduated from high school and went to work at Dow Chemical as a front desk receptionist.
It was here that she met and married Richard (Dick) Crandall on September 2, 1950. They had two sons, Robert (Bob) and William (Bill). They celebrated 68 years of marriage in 2018.
In 1962, the Crandall family moved to Kansas City, Kansas. Lyn spent her life caring for her family and working as a seamstress. Lyn was well known for her talents with a sewing machine and worked first as a tailor in a department store and then ran her own business tailoring for many customers in the Kansas City area.
Lyn had the opportunity to travel during her life. The family enjoyed many camping vacations touring the United States when the boys were young, as well as traveling abroad during their retirement years. Each fall, Lyn would return home with Dick to South Dakota for the annual pheasant hunt.
In 1994, Dick and Lyn moved to Traverse City, Michigan to follow the grandchildren. Lyn was active in her community, played bridge, a member of Immaculate Conception Church and attended many events at Suttons Bay Schools to watch and cheer on her grandchildren.
Lyn is survived by her husband, Richard (Dick) Crandall, her sons: Robert (Bob) and Kris Crandall, William (Bill) and Cindy Crandall, her grandchildren: Ashley (Nick) Darga, Tyler (Sheila) Crandall, Alex (Hedai) Horak, Jordan (Ethan) Crandall, and Brooke Crandall. Lyn also had three great-grandchildren: Calvin and Sabrina Darga and Catherine Horak, her sister-in-laws; Lois Crandall of Rising Sun, OH, and Barbara (Crandall) Hamilton of Decatur, AL, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Lyn is preceded in death by her parents, John and Elizabeth Stork, her sisters and brothers: Ann (Stork) and Ray Jacoby of St. Louis, MO, Fred Stork of Dante, SD, William H. Stork of Geddes. SD, Ralph and Polly Stork of Lead, SD, Margaret (Stork) and Lou Bissert, of St. Louis, MO, and Luella (Stork) and Jack Oates, of St. Louis, MO, her in-laws, Floyd and Barbara Crandall, her brother and sister-in-law's: Ralph Crandall of Toledo, OH, Audrey (Crandall) and Dick Alford or Toledo, OH, Robert and Lucy Crandall of Hudson, FL, Charles Crandall of Rising Sun, OH, and and Ted Hamilton of Decatur, AL.
