Madelaine Mode

Traverse City - Ann Madelaine Mode, 95, of Traverse City and formerly of Midland passed away Monday, August 6, 2012 at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City.

Madelaine was born on March 6, 1917 to the late Perry and Madelaine (McDermott) Madden in Indianapolis, IN.

Madelaine entered into marriage with Robert S. Mode of Midland in March of 1941. The two made their home in Midland raising their two boys, as Madelaine began work as a travel agent. She enjoyed her career working early on with Midland Travel and eventually Passageways, arranging for trips all over the world and acted as a guide on many of them. The family frequented Traverse city for many years, maintaining a summer home on Long Lake until making the move permanent in 1973. Madelaine was a women strong in her convictions and was a proud mother and grandmother. In 1994 Madelaine was recognized for her character and success named "Woman of the Year" by Zonta. She could often be found staying fit, walking as much as possible or enjoying moments with her family.

Madelaine is survived by her daughter-in-law, Anita Mode of Traverse City; grandchildren, Skylar Ann, Robert Jason, and Christopher Perry Mode, all of Traverse City, a great-grandchild, Kaiden, several nieces and nephews and many other loving family members and friends.

Madelaine was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert S. Mode, three sons, Robert J. Mode in 2007, USN Douglas Mode in 1969, and Richard Mode in infancy, one brother Robert Madden, sister, Eleanor Bamond, and niece Rannoch "Girlie" Ihrig.

Per her wishes cremation has taken place and a memorial services will take place at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Sunday, August 12, 2012 at 11:00 am with visitation beginning at 10:00 am. Rev. Walter D. Kreger will lead the service of remembrance.

Inurnment will be held in Midland Cemetery next to her beloved husband, Bob.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Munson Hospice House or to the Long Lake Foundation to preserve the islands of Long Lake.
