Mae (Nyland) Gribble, 89, left this earth to be with Jesus on May 31, 2019. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Alice Nyland; brother Henry; sister Ann and her beloved husband Chester Gribble.
Mae was a woman who seemed to have never met a stranger and would know your ancestors back to the Mayflower in just a 20 minute conversation. She was so frugal she could make Abraham Lincoln scream. If she had had control of our country's finances, there would be a national surplus that would last an eternity. She loved to volunteer for blood drives, the baby pantry at West Bay Covenant Church (her home church for over 50 years) and other organizations. For decades she made hundreds of cookies and candies at Christmas, all individually wrapped, to give to family and friends. She was a person who hated being wasteful. Those who knew her were entertained by her quick wit, one liners and her genuine care for others. Most of all she loved her Lord, her family and her many dear friends. Mae graduated from Butterworth School of Nursing as an RN and worked for 34 years at the Traverse City State Hospital. She retired in 1984.
She is survived by her sons Edward (Koneta) Gribble and Glen (Nancy) Gribble; grandchildren James (Marina) Gribble, Lisa Gribble, Jason (Jaclyn) Gribble, Nikki (Eric) Lorenzen; 11 great grandchildren Cleveland, Ryan, Sydney Talbot, James II, Seraphina, Sebastian Gribble, Elijah, Isaiah, Anna Gribble, Kit and baby boy Lorenzen due in June; and nephews Ralph (Barb), Richard (Kelly), Ray (Rose) Hines. She is also survived by many dear cousins.
Visitation for friends and family will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2019 from 5 to 8 pm at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home where some of Mae's candies will be shared. Funeral services will take place at West Bay Covenant Church, 12720 S. West Bay Shore Drive in Traverse City on Friday June 7, 2019 at 2:00 pm with visitation beginning one hour prior. Interment will follow at the Southern Cemetery in Antrim County.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the West Bay Covenant Church or to Faith Hospice, 2100 Raybrook SE, Suite 300, Grand Rapids, MI 49546.
