TRAVERSE CITY — Malcolm A. Butler, 79, of Traverse City and formerly of Wisconsin, passed away Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011, at his home.Malcolm Albert Butler was born on Jan. 9, 1932, to the late R. Millard and Mabel (Powers) Butler in Royal Oak. He married his sweetheart, Daisy Frederickson, on Dec. 22, 1950, in Frankfort.He attended Honor High School, graduating in 1952. After graduation he and his family moved to Wisconsin, where they raised their four children. He was employed at several factories in Wisconsin, but he enjoyed his work as a carpenter the most. He learned the skill of carpentry from his father and passed it on to his son and grandchildren. He was a member of the Milwaukee Carpenters Local 2283. While in Wisconsin he joined the Mequon Police, where he served for 20 years. After his retirement and the illness of his mother-in-law, they returned to Michigan to enjoy their retirement years.He loved to fish and hunt until illness took those pleasures away. In 1995 they moved from Frankfort to a new home in Traverse City. He enjoyed riding his scooter around the neighborhood chatting with all the neighbors. Malcolm is survived by his loving wife of over 60 years, Daisy Butler, of Traverse City; his son, Jim (Joanne) Butler, of Campbellsport, Wis.; his two daughters, Margery (John) Wahlen, of Wisconsin, and Kathie (Thomas) Mantey, of Roanoke, Va.; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ronald, Virgil (Joan) and William (Doreen) Butler; as well as many other loving family members and friends.Malcolm was preceded in death by his daughter, Deborah in 2001; his sister, Margery in childhood; and his parents. Memorial services will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 3746 Veterans Dr., Traverse City.Please share your thoughts with the family at Malcolm's online guestbook at
